Max i am writing to you from Montreal Canada and i just want to say that Seria A is my favourit Football League and i totally enjoy the way you comment on the games. I just finished watching the Inter-Napoli game and Napoli were unlucky not to come out with full points. If they were a little bit more precise on their finishing it would have been a different game. Also Max do you think the Italian teams especially the Milan teams have a chance in the Champions League this year. I believe we do. Keep up the great work. Canada is listening to you. Ciao.
February 15, 2010 at 2:51 pm
Hi Tony,
Inter are a formidable side in every department and they showed that last night because, I agree with you, Napoli had more than enough chances to win that game. Quagliarella was unlucky, so too was Hamsik, but Julio Cesar’s save from Denis was a match saver. The run that Napoli are on is fantastic and it would be great if they could get into the Champions League.
Speaking of which, I’m going to watch Milan V Man Utd tomorrow night (as a fan, not a commentator!). It will be interesting to see how Milan cope with the power and determination of Wayne Rooney. It’s a close call but I think Inter may progress against Chelsea, but Utd will have learned from their 3-0 defeat 3 years ago and will get their soccer revenge on the Rossoneri.
Best wishes to you and Montreal,
Max

Hey Max,
Good work with the commentary. Just one point though, you remarked during the Catania vs AC Milan game (29-1-2011) that Luca Antonini was sent off in the derby against Inter. I would like to bring to your notice that it was actually Ignazio Abate who was sent off after an altercation with Goran Pandev.
Ciao,

Hey im listening to you now through a betfair video stream.
Ac Milan v Bari,
C’mon Bari!
March 14, 2010 at 10:05 pm
Hi Max I enjoy you as a commentator much more than anyone espn can round up for the wc. Anyways my question is about the serie A compared to the other leagues. Do you think that the top 4 whoever it may be at the moment are much weaker than the top 4 in other leagues or is it that the rest of the league is stronger in serie A than in the other major leagues. Spain is a good example of the latter, the league championship is in no doubt either Real or Barca the rest of league is rubbish and can not take points off of them as Catania, Livorno, Siena, Udinese and Chievo almost did.
March 15, 2010 at 6:43 am
Hi Roberto,
Firstly thanks for listening. In my opinion the Serie A is the strongest league in Europe in terms of it’s depth of quality. If you look past the historical winning teams, Milan, Juve, Roma and Inter then there are still plenty of others that have strong squads, consistant and attractive patterns of play and relative success in European competition. Fiorentina beat Liverpool home and away this year, although this is The Reds’ bleakest season for years. Palermo are all round strong and are particularly good at home, as are Napoli (I think the games next week featuring Palermo Vs Inter and Milan Vs Napoli will be amazing…I am commentating the Fiorentina game Saturday at 6pm). I think that Cagliari would be a match for a higher placed team in the English Premiership as would Sampdoria and Genoa.
In short, Man Utd beat Milan 4-0 and I think Chelsea will beat Inter. Barcelona are the reigning Euro Champs and Madrid have the money. I think if you look at the top four in Italy then they are weaker than England and Spain, but the league is stronger and more unpredictable because of the depth of quality of the teams competing in it.
Thanks again for writing, do check out my music too!
Next game: Fiorentina Vs Genoa on Saturday 20th March 6pm Italian time kick off.
Cheers,
Max
March 30, 2010 at 6:40 pm
I watched the Milan vs Lazio game over the weekend in which you commentated, and that game proved to me that milan needs more depth in their squad. As a diehard Milan supporter, i have been saying this since the begining of the season, but that game truly made me realize it. The team with no Beckham, Dinho, Pirlo, Nesta, and Pato are not even half the team they are when those players are playing. What do you think needs to happen in order for Milan to become more successful? Its clear that Berlusconi does not want to put any money into the team any more, and he refuses to sell the club to someone who will put some much needed money. Should i just look forward to years of disapointment and supporting a team whose average ae will just keep increasing, or do you think that there is hope for a brighter future?
March 30, 2010 at 8:28 pm
AC Milan had 9 players out for the game against Lazio. You counted 5 of them, but you could also add Mancini, Onyewu, Abbiati and Bonera to that list. Certainly not all of the 9 are starters in the XI, but many of them are key players, for example Pato is the top scorer, Dinho is Mr.Assist and Nesta is an irreplacable defender (and ex-Lazio captain). I think the injury situation at Milan has given them a lot of difficulties, although it could be argued that they have an old squad and are players more prone to injury when they pass 32/33? This is a point for consideration.
The wage bill at Milan is amongst the highest, if not the highest in Italy. However, it is a long way short of Real, Barca, Chelsea and others. The money is put into the wages although I sense your frustration at AC Milan not paying the big transfer fees like Inter Milan do. More often than not, the Rossoneri snap up out of contract players.
For the future, Milan have some promising youngsters who are learning their trade around the serie A, for instance Matri at Cagliari and Paloschi at Parma. Remember too that Borriello did the rounds for Reggina, Samp, Treviso and Genoa before he came ‘back’ to the San Siro. Milan do have players out there but they are very thorough in the selection of their roster. This is their hope for a brighter future.
7 games left George, anything can happen!
Thanks for writing in,
Max

hey max
What do you make of the recent events where bookies slash the price of draw for few serie A matches, i.e chievo-catania, parma-chievo,bologna-lazio and what’s the reaction to that in italy ?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in, I don’t bet but I’ll talk to some of my colleagues about this point during the week.

Hi Max
Just listened to you commentate on Sampdoria vs Genoa. I’m from Bedford in England and am a die hard Sampdoria fan, so as you can imagine i’m very happy with the result. We can seriously push for fourth spot but Milan and Roma are going to be the deciders. If we can get results from those games i’m hoping to book my ticket to watch the last game of the season against Napoli in Genoa. Anyway thought i would drop you a message as you always seem to be comentating on the Samp games. Enjoying your work and hope to hear you again next week.
Cheers!
Lawrence
April 11, 2010 at 10:28 pm
Nice one Lawrence,
Watch out for Palermo! Fabio Liverani is quoted as saying that your penultimate game is at the Barbera stadium in Sicily and that ‘it could be the decider for fourth spot’. Tough games coming up for Samp but a very good performance against the Grifoni tonight.
A rollercoaster ride for sure. Good luck for the rest of the season and thanks for writing in. When I’m doing a Samp game I’ll let you know. In the meantime, check the site, http://www.maxpatrick.net for the latest on matches and music.
Cheers,
Max

Hi Max. Great game you commented on today. The Sampdoria against Genoa was an exciting derby and commented on brilliantly on your part. I am writing to you also to find out what you think the out come of the fantastic home and away Champions League clash between Inter Milan and Barcelona will be. Personally i believe Inter will beat Barcelona and somehow Morinho will figure how to contain the brilliant Messi. What say you Max. Ciao for now from Montreal.
April 12, 2010 at 5:37 am
Hi Tony,
Good to hear from you again!
The winner of Inter Vs Barcelona has a great chance of winning the Champions league. Often in the big competitions it is the semi-final that is the better game for drama and key moments. Barcelona drew with Inter at the San Siro and beat them at the Nou Camp in the group stages but that means nothing now because the mentality is very very different.
I think that Barcelona have too much for Inter ON the pitch. Messi, Ibra, Henry are just irresistable as an attack. Inter will be very determined and I think the first game may see them take an advantage to the Nou Camp, but overall the Catalan side should progress.
Mourinho is the better coach, Barcelona are the better team…It will be a very interesting semi!
Who will succeed in the other game between Bayern and Lyon?
Ciao,
Max
April 14, 2010 at 4:31 am
Hi Max. So your saying Barcelona will beat Inter over the 2 legged games. Of course i disagree with you. Inter to me seems more hungry than Barca and like i said in my previous comment i believe Inters midfield will stop Messi from playing his game. Mourinho has something up his sleave. As for the matches between Bayern and Lyon, i believe that Bayern will get thru, but just barely. Luck seems to be on their side so far. Can’t wait to see who of us will be right Max. Ciao, till later.
April 13, 2010 at 7:33 pm
Hi there Tony!
Inter Milan have invested in Jose Mourinho to win them the Champions League. As an Italian football commentator I have a good understanding of Inter’s strengths and weaknesses, but less so about Barcelona’s. There is a tendancy to talk up Barca after their annihilation of Arsenal at the Nou Camp and their recent win over Real Madrid. They are the current Champions of the Champions League and they have arguably the World’s best player in Messi.
Hmm..they seem unbeatable and that will spur Inter on to disprove that. Not many people would’ve given Inter a chance of beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but they did.
I really think this is a ‘beautiful question’… can Messi’s inspiration, innovation and improvisation be predicted, controlled and anticipated by Jose Mourinho’s men on the pitch. It’s like asking if a studio recording can capture the magic of a live gig! We’re looking at two different phases of thought and movement. Wow! it’s sure going to be interesting viewing!
Inter Milan to win the Champions League, AS Roma the scudetto…..!!!
Enjoy the process!
April 14, 2010 at 4:45 am
Ah Max you saw the light and are predicting Inter to win the Champions League (LOL). Seriously i do agree with you on both counts, with Roma to win the scudetto. I believe with Inter progressing to the Champions League final their concentration will be more on the Champions then Serie A. As for Roma’s coach Ranieri, he is having them play brilliant football and very inspirational games from their players on the pitch. And finally yes i believe that Inter will control Messi’s brilliancy on the pitch by their midfielders and their central defenders. I really believe that Lucio will be key to defending against Messi in front of the net. Inters midfield will make sure that Messi does not get the ball as often as he would like and when he does they will close down his movements.Watch Cambiasso especially to shut him down. Ciao for now Max.
April 24, 2010 at 5:55 pm
Max,
You are a talented chap, not only a splendid, and enthusiastic commentator, but a musician!
It is all getting to the sharp end of the season, and Inter continue to ply their trade on three fronts. Can Sampdoria do us a wee favour tomorrow night? As they go for a Champions League slot, a Roma win is not a foregone conclusion.
Inter did well today, and a Kenyan moment of history! All roads lead to Barcelona and the mouthwatering prospect of trying to hold onto a two goal advantage against a team that, if given a chance will destroy us. Jose M is a master of motivation, and another 90 minutes of keeping Messi quiet, and we’ll be going to Madrid! The spirit of Stamford Bridge is needed.
I hope Bologna can stay in Serie A, as my other team, Cesena are on the cusp of a long overdue return to the top table, and a Cesena/Bologna derby is one of the lesser known, great Italian occasions!
Keep up the excellent work my man, and come on Inter!
James
May 2, 2010 at 8:18 pm
max… I really love your work, especially trying to bring the serie A into lime light, its about time someone does that. I am just watching the Lazio Vs. Inter match, and its 2-0 to inter. with all due respect to lazio and Roma, i really want Inter to win this especially that they are up for a treble, but refering to the fans, you should know that Lazio and Roma are eternal rivals, and the lazio fans dont want them tho win the league, I guess thats why the fans are fully behind inter.
May 3, 2010 at 6:15 pm
Hi Jay,
I don’t want my rival team to do well. I like it when they lose! It’s good when they are in trouble. But I hope to goodness that I don’t want my own team to fail in a different game so that maybe the rival team will not be successful. Lazio last night crossed that line and what we saw wasn’t sport.
May 2, 2010 at 8:32 pm
Hi Mad Max….
Your views on the Lazio – Inter game, was that the weirdest game you commentated?
May 2, 2010 at 8:34 pm
Lazio really are a disgrace to football aren’t they? If Inter drop points later and Roma win the Scudetto every soul in the red half of Rome should show the thumbs down to their disgraceful cousins. If that happens, there is a God, and he loves Calcio!
May 3, 2010 at 6:13 pm
That action last night, that surrender, was indeed disgraceful.
May 3, 2010 at 3:31 am
Max, i still can’t believe the result and the attitude of the Lazio fans with this 2-0 Inter win. To cheer the opposition to win against your own team so Roma does not win the scudetto is a disgrace. To me this proves only one thing: Lazio fans hate Roma more then they love Lazio. After all they are still battling not to get relegated. Lazio fans are interested more in hating Roma fans then supporting their own team. They deserve Seria B. What say you Max. Oh and another thing your telecast today proved in your voice that it was a strange game for you to comment on and you were dissapointed.
May 3, 2010 at 6:04 pm
Hi Tony,
I still am disappointed! You said it; ‘Lazio fans hate Roma more than they love Lazio’.
I need to move on from this one!
Bologna Vs Catania at the weekend mate;)
http://www.maxpatrick.net
May 8, 2010 at 4:06 pm
Hi again Max
I note that the game you were due to do commentry on tomorrow, Bologna V Catania is now not being streamed, so have you been allocated another match and if so, which one?
For those of us watching via the web, its a case of switiching between 5 Serie A matches going on simultaneously – heaven!
May 8, 2010 at 5:29 pm
Hi Richard,
I was hoping to get Palermo Vs Sampdoria but that hasn’t been taken up. Now that the games are all showing at the same time it’s a case of ‘luck of the draw’. Bologna can save themselves from relegation tomorrow whilst Catania have made it clear that they’ll be doing them ‘no favours’.
I’ll let you know the last game when I know through the site,
http://www.maxpatrick.net
Thanks for writing in Richard,
Max

Hi agian Max.
I’m curious to know what your thoughts are on last nights match. Inter played to a plan and it paid off, which from an Italian football perspective is great news.
With their coach seemingly on the way to Real Madrid, do you think they will:
1 – be able to hold onto player such as Milito, Snjeider , E’To and Cesar who form part of the key core of the team?
2 – be able to do as well again in the Champions League next season without such a hard nosed coach who got players playing for him?
3 – get a coach who will keep them winning – and who do you think that might be?
Given two of the three other teams form Italy in the Champions league next season will have new coaches I’m not sure they will have the stability to go all the way. Samp might as the team will be similar as this season and so might Roma. With Inter it all depends on hwo many player if any follow their coach to Spain and how the new coach gets on with the current squad.
As for Milan well maybe the President should become coach and see who difficult it is?
August 30, 2010 at 8:52 pm
Hi Max, great to hear you commentating on Bologna-Inter tonight, what a finish, I thought Inter were going to win. Usually I tune into matches from the Serie A not expecting to hear a commentator who I actually like, but you are every bit as good as the guys who do Premier League and Champions League matches.
I have a couple questions for you, do you commentate on the matches live from the stadium, or do you do it from a studio? Also do you know when the last time that Serie A played a Monday night match? (at least one that isn’t on a holiday). I’ve casually followed Serie A and Roma in the past, but I’ve just started watching it consistently this year (because we get it in HD here in Canada for the first time).
Finally one other thing, is there anyway that you could tell the people that produce the international video feed that the graphics need to be a bit larger? I’d contact them directly, but I have no clue who does it. I can’t really read them on my 32″ HDTV.
Thanks and keep up the Great work,
Josh
August 31, 2010 at 2:26 am
Hi Max,first time commenting, listened to your commentary Bologna v Im.
Thought the holding mid fielder Manganduli??? for Bologna was a very effective player. My man of the match out of all the talent around him.If Bologna are a favourite to go down there must be some pretty good teams in Serie A! I will watch Bologna now to see how they fare.
I would like you to comment more on the decisions made/not made by the officials. The Premiership have a good system,a commentator and an anylyst, usually an ex pro or manager. The best in my opinion is Paul Walsh.Always seems to get it right, admittedly after the fact!
Any chance of that?
September 5, 2010 at 9:48 am
Welcome back for the new season Max.
The Palermo match was not shown here but Mondays’ game was. Too early to give serious indications of what lay’s ahread but Milan were free flowing especially in the first half on Sunday. Not sure it would have been so easy if the match had been at the Stadio Di’Mare Inter though were lacking sparkle.
How do you think the three promoted teams will get on?
Good to see some Serie B matches being shown as well. I hope my family’s local side Novara are shown at some stage this season.
I’m going to miss week 2 but will be back in the UK for week 3.
One other question, what is your opinion of Cesare Praandelli being the coach? Will he bring back the style the italians can play along with the right results??
Thanks
September 8, 2010 at 3:30 am
Max ….who was the guy doing the color commentary with paul visca during the milan match opening weekend?? sounded like he was spanish…
would be great if you could get some well known columnists to do color with you for your broadcasts…. like janusz michalek or gabe marcotti or james horcastle or carlo garganese, etc
September 9, 2010 at 1:21 am
I wanted to check in and say how much I enjoy your commentary on the Serie A on FSC in Chicago. My favorite team is AC Milan and I could not be more excited about the season!
One comment: I am huge fan of the single-person commentary instead of the 2-person. Please stick with this approach! When there are two people there’s endless chatter and dialog between the 2 that is just irritating. With one person, we hear just enough and the comments are much more likely to be informative rather than banter.
September 17, 2010 at 9:45 am
I waited to reply until after I did the commentary duo with Paul for Juventus Vs Sampdoria. We’re going back to the two commentator approach for some selected games this year.
I thought about your message during the commentary and hopefully didn’t go on too much. It helped that the game was an exciting 3-3.
My next games are Milan Vs Catania on Saturday and Udinese Vs Juventus on Sunday. They’re both solo ‘gigs’. Hope that you tune in.
Cheers for now,
Max
September 11, 2010 at 8:29 pm
Hello, I am currently hearing your commentary on the jsc sports and you are the best commentator I have heard. You have single-handedly brought me into Italian football in the last year or so. How do you think AC Milan would do this season, and your predictions on their Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Champions league plights.
September 17, 2010 at 9:42 am
Thanks so much for your kind words.
I thought that Roma would win the league this year, but after two games they have looked all over the place. However, I’m going to stick to my guns and predict AS Roma to do the scudetto. Coppa Italia will be Inter Milan but that will be their only trophy because the Champions League winner will be…Real Madrid. I can’t see past Mourinho at this point making history (again).
What do you think?
Max
September 18, 2010 at 8:36 pm
Just like to say enjoy serie a with you commentating. I watch ALOT of football and usually end up bored with commentary of football abroad but you actually know the league and teams which is refreshing.
Keep up the good work.
October 2, 2010 at 8:37 pm
Max, i cant really enjoy watching AC Milan games because of how much you obviously dislike Ronaldinho… he’s absolutely the best player i have ever seen play the game (im 23) and no Messi or C.Ronaldo have the vision and tactical awareness that he does… yet every single time he commits an error you comment on it. He’s not the same Ronnie as he was in Barca, ofcourse he’s a little older..but he can make a play out of absolutely nothing, in a split second. He is always the most creative player on the pitch and its rare to hear you ever compliment him. He gave Ibrahimovic a lovely chip in the first 15 mins of the Parma game that left Ibra 1v1 with the goalie and NOTHING! Why?
October 2, 2010 at 10:53 pm
Thanks for your message.
I’ve just listened back to the highlights for Parma Vs AC Milan. For Ronaldinho I said (for the shot saved by Mirante):
‘A beautiful passage of play from Ronaldinho’
For his shot wide later in the game:
‘Ronaldinho with a chance to seal the game for Milan….no.’
Nothing personal, I don’t dislike any player. Hopefully every single time he does something I comment on it. If it’s good or bad.
So, how many goals and assists do you think that your man will get this season and, multi-million euro question…will he be an AC Milan player next season?
Thanks for writing in,
Max
October 3, 2010 at 7:50 am
Hi Max
I think we saw last night why Milan are no where near wining the scudetto yet. They seriously lack pace up front. It’s all fancy passing, which is a skill in itself but they dont put passes on for people to chase often enough because the front players lack pace.
I though Rohbinio was a waste of space, he needs to seriously improve to avoid being a bad buy.
Pirolo’s goal was a wonder strike and Gatusso looked like he was getting back to form. Alas Parma offered little threat and are a shadow of the team we saw in the ealry 90′s.
Great commentry as ever, keep up the goodwork. Did you enjoy your half time expresso?
October 4, 2010 at 3:53 am
Hi Max.
Is there any reason why Serie A uses co-commentators for some games, or is it just random? I have to say that I really like it idea, it gets a bit tiresome hearing the same voice for 90 minutes. I think it would be great if they would hire some ex-pro footballers to be the co-commentators, and leave you, Whittle and Visca to be the main commentators though.
Keep up the great work.
October 25, 2010 at 7:42 pm
hi max , how are you hope you doing ok , i am wiritng to you from stoke-on-trent (england) i am a biggest italian football and i support ac milan by the way i am just watching napoli vs milan right now iits half time break , i have to say that i really enjoy watching those games that you commentating because it makes the game more sensetional then it has so i was wondeing where are you come from and which team do you support hope you dont mind for asking
take care
January 7, 2011 at 8:41 pm
Happy New Year Max and good to see you back on-line again. So much for my comments above about Milan who now proudly sit atop of Serie A. Shows what can be done under a promising Italian coach.
I enjoyed the Inter match last night with your and Paul covering a very good match with some great action.
I see the Coppa Italia matches are being shown next week. Are you doing any of those. Good to see some of these games as well as Serie B getting air time.
Which team do you think will win the scudetto and what about the Champions league games?
January 9, 2011 at 1:53 am
Hey Max. Just wishing you luck in tomorrows games you are to televise. Always great to hear your broadcasts. I just want to add that we are about to see a rebirth of Inter Milan under Leonardo. I believe they will become the Italian version of Barcelona with great players on the team and a coach who will have them express their talent within the same framework that Mourinho implemented last year and with which they won everything.
January 9, 2011 at 1:38 pm
Tuning in from Sweden. Allways listening to you on the stream on bet365, you’re a great commentator and I hope you continue to enlighten my Serie A games with your knowledge. The statistics you bring up are never boring and I was laughing for 20 minutes when I heard about Ranieris poor run against Sampdoria. 16 years.. My god.
January 29, 2011 at 9:36 pm
Hey,
I am listening to your commentary of Milan vs. Catania right now. I believe you described Robinho as “an excellent finisher” this season. I am sorry but Robinho is without any doubt the worst finisher in Serie A, and certainly one of the worst strikers of all time. This season I have seen Robinho miss 2 breakaways in the worst possible way (tame chip attempts dribbling wide of the posts), I have seen him trip and fall when clear through on a breakaway, and I have seen him other than that miss wide open nets on several occasions. Aside from that, the general running around giving the ball away does not help. The vast majority of his goals this season have been rolled into open nets, with the goalkeeper down and out somewhere else (i.e. today’s goal). The odd decent pass seems to always overshadow the 99% awfulness. Robinho is the only player that actually is PAINFUL to watch play. I will say that I like his work ethic. He goes out on the field and certainly is trying and working, and certainly has determination. But at the end of the day, he is just simply AWFUL.
I have no idea how Allegri can possibly choose Robinho over Pato if Pato is healthy.
January 29, 2011 at 9:49 pm
Hey Max. Just listened to your call on the AC Milan, Catania game. Good work. I’m not sure I agree that AC Milan have all but sealed the Serie A this year. They have to play some great teams before the year is done and even one slip up could put them into some trouble. I can honestly see any of the top 5 teams topping the table by the end of the season but most likely Inter, AC, or Napoli.
Great call and I hope I catch another one of your games soon!
February 13, 2011 at 3:37 pm
Hello Max,
Lazio fan from Canada. Watching Lazio v. Brescia (02.13.11). Enjoying your commentary. Hoping that this dream season for Lazio continues.
February 21, 2011 at 4:17 am
Hello Max big Juventus fan Canada..a couple of questions… is Napoli your biggest surprise this year or the the league weeker then ever and if they get in Champions league can they get out of the qualifying rounds.
I JUST SAW THE ac milan loose to spurs..sees to me that Milan is a slow and aging team and they can’t keep with the younger faster Spurs.
Does ac milan management have to strip that team apart and start fresh. What can you comment about the players purchased by Juventus and their future if any in champions league.
April 5, 2011 at 5:55 am
Max,
Napoli v Lazio was a classic. The battle between two teams determined to remain in the hunt and the result did not disappoint. Napoli coming back from 2 goals down upon Edy Reja’s return was unbelievable. A Napoli fan him/herself couldn’t have written a better story.
All that being said, the footballing display wasn’t perfect however your call of the match was stellar. Absolutely brilliant. I would rank your performance slightly ahead of Napoli’s hat-trick hero, Edinson Cavani. Epic call Max! Loved it.

Dear Pete,
Thanks so much for taking the time to write in. I’d like to share this with all the people who have written in; it’s the ‘Goooooaaaaaaaal!’
Yours sincerely,

Glad you posted it. Instant classic!

Hey Max
Great commentary during games. Keep up the good work. Do you see major changes for Juve next season? Krasic has proved proved to be a good scorer and Matri seems ok but it seems they don’t have anyone consistent scoring goals. Any thoughts on a new coach?
April 10, 2011 at 8:49 am
Juventus are a club in major transition between being the Old Lady of the 20th Century and the New Woman of the 21st Century. Trophies, for now, belong to the past. The present is about shaping a new identity built around young Italian players like Matri, Marchisio, Aquilani, Chiellini, Bonucci etc. Del Piero still has something to offer but before the famous club can move on they need a player like Del Piero, but as a 23 year old prospect. They’ve found the player in the past before, they need to find a player like him again to be their on-field inspiration season after season. Juve have shown that they can scout well with a player like Krasic, so I believe that the Bianconeri can return to their past glories with a world class prospect to follow in Del Piero’s footsteps.
As for the coach, I think Del Neri is a good coach and stability off the pitch is very important as Juve grow into their new stadium.
Good questions there Paul,

Max, during your commentary earlier today of Inter-Chievo, I was following a live Inter blog, and many of us started talking about your commentary, all good of course! We all loved it when you screamed “Go, Nagatomo go!” Most of us agreed that Naga was the MOM

Yes! I thought he played with his heart and soul and he deserved… a goal!

Max, how upsetting to see the Viola lose! I think they created more chances in the second half and wished to have seen at least a tie. Do you think it was the right outcome? Oh, and what was your story about Montolivo??? Thanks.

Hey Max,
Who do you see taking fourth place and a qualifying spot at the CL? I love Lazio and I think that if they win two of their four away matches, they should wrap it up. They play shutdown defense at the Olimpico and are sure to lock up wins versus Juve and Genoa. Also, how do you see them faring next year? Hernanes and Kozak are young and strong and I think they are the future.
Thanks and keep up the great work!

Hey Max:) I’m writing you from Bulgaria.I’m a big fan of AC Milan and I read an article about you in our fan site in Bulgaria.Do you really believe that our squad can hold that 3 point until the end of the season?I mean, there is no doubt that AC Milan is the best team so far this season, but we have really tough games to play….Do you think that Milan can be sharp enough even without Ibra and Pato (I hope the injury he just picked up is not serious)? Congrats for your commentary work.you really seem to know, understand and enjoy the Italian calcio:)

Well I just did the game today (Milan v Bologna) and they weren’t pretty but they were effective. I don’t see a future for Cassano with that level of performance if I’m going to be critical. Thiago Silva was immense and he had to be because in the second half the Rossoneri were at walking pace.
Just one point now for Milan and the party can begin…

Hey Max, Just wanted to say that I love your voice, Everytime I watch a Juve game (My fav team) your Voice always attracts me more to the game. Your accent is beautiful. Anyway just wanted your opinion or as you call it a Max hunch, who will be the Juve coach for the 2011-2012 season, do you think that Quagy, Aquaman, Matri will be bought?? What should we do to fix this situation?? Thank you for reading this Max. I will be waiting for your reply. Please keep up your fantastic work.

Hi Yasser,
Thanks for your kind words, they’re much appreciated.
The press are talking about Spalletti being a done deal and that would make sense given that he did a good job with Roma. Del Neri may be given more time. Juventus will be a more attractive proposition next year as they head toward their new stadium. I think Juventus need stability and that means investing in a coach for longer than a season at a time. I think that they should stick with Del Neri, personally, unless somebody with a link to the club AND a proven track record becomes available.
Quagliarella, Aquilani, Matri join fellow Italian Internationals Bonucci, Pepe, Chiellini as 100% Juventus players. I fully expect Juventus to buy Gilardino, maybe Quagliarella will become a part of that deal?
Juventus, as I mentioned in an earlier letter on the maxpatrickmusicfootball.com site, need a young Del Piero to become the idol of the fans and to capture the imagination. Until they find this rare talent, Juventus are always going to be struggling to reach the heights that they once had.
With best wishes,
Max

Hey Max, it’s me again. I watced the Juve Catania game (again loved your voice). We played good in the first half, up untill Del Piero came off everything went bad for us. I can’t believe our luck. Lazio lost, If we got the 3 points, then played and won Lazio next week, we would have been 2 points away from 4th place. The game made me so angry and disappointed, we should have scored so many goals. This Juve dosn’t fight till the end. They thought the match was already won. Del Neri should have warned the players against complacency, but he encouraged it with his subs. Also I think the ref was a fool to give Catania a free-kick against Melo’s hand ball. Where is he supposed to put his shoulder?? I can’t believe out luck. Thanks for reading Max, Ill be waiting for your reply. Take care and will be waiting for your next commentary.

Thanks Slawek!
I really enjoyed working with Paul today too. Milan are just 1 point away now from the Scudetto. They looked full of nerves in the second half, but they are going to do it. Stay in touch!

Hi Max.
Now the season is over, i wonder about your choices for No 1 performers during the 2010-11 seasons.
Mine are:
Best player – Antonio Di Natale. The fact he’s top scorer yet again is tesstiment to his ability as a striker. I’d say Christian Abiati is second as he had his best season for Milan and certainly was a key element of their success.
Best team – Milan with Napoli and Udinese just behind.
Best coach – Max Allergi. Not heard often but nurtured a more flamboyant Milan but one with a much tighter defence than in past seasons. A small gamble prehaps but its paid off handsomely.
Negatives – the poor form in european club competitions which is getting embarrasing. The constant changes in coaches, really shown upby the general stability of the Premiership is resulting in it being more successful.
The poor attendances. Any thoughts why the provinical clubs dont get near capacity crowds.? They might not get a full house for every home game but it seems to me (again) the Premiership is a better marketing tool right now going by the figures over here.
Enjoy your summer and looking forward to hearing you roar on italian teams next season.
